Threats to Gorillas

Human
Contact
Human diseases such as measles, ebola and even colds cause illness and death
Habitat
Loss
A growing human population puts pressure on local resources, damaging gorilla habitats
Snares
and traps
Gorillas can get injured and sometimes killed by snares set for other animals
Climate
Change
Increasing temperatures and changing rainfall could destroy gorilla habitat

Adopt a gorilla to help protect their future

A gorilla adoption helps us:

  • buy equipment for staff, communities and rangers to reduce the risk of disease transmission
  • coordinate anti-poaching patrols to detect and safely remove snares which can often injure or kill gorillas
  • work with local governments to improve the management of the national parks where mountain gorillas live

The survival of gorillas depends on our protection. Please help us to bring our world back to life, before it's too late.

Benefits of adopting as a gift

A WWF gorilla adoption is the perfect hassle-free gift for friends or family with a passion for wildlife and making a difference.

Sustainable gift - make your impact go further

Gift packaging is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and uses 100% recycled materials. No plastic is used in our gift packaging and it can be fully recycled.

Our adoption toys are made to the Blue Angel standard. This independent ecolabel certification means these soft toys have a lower environmental impact and higher protection for human health, for example protecting workers rights, compared to other soft toys. If you would like to make your support go further, in checkout you can choose to not send the toy in your recipient. Although we have worked hard to reduce the footprint of our toys, they still have an impact on the environment, so choosing not to receive a toy is the most environmentally-friendly option and your loved one will still receive a welcome pack and regular updates.

Convenient and pressure-free gifts

Order online and your gift recipient will be sent a welcome pack directly to their door. If you need a last-minute gift, you'll receive a personalised gorilla gift certificate to give to your loved one while waiting for the pack to arrive.

You can also browse other species to adopt as a gift.

Impact

Our gorilla adoptions are more than a cuddly toy, they’re helping protect wildlife and their habitats. Your gift will support our work in training rangers, coordinating anti-poaching patrols, and working with local governments to improve the management of the national parks in which gorillas safely reside.

Gorilla adoption gift FAQs

Gorilla adoptions help us; support locals in using natural resources in a sustainable way to reduce damage to gorilla habitat; train rangers to detect and remove snares set for other animals which can injure or kill gorillas; work with local governments to improve the management of the national parks in which gorillas live.

Gorilla adoptions are symbolic for donating and supporting our conservation work with gorillas. By adopting a gorilla, you will be supporting a whole group of gorillas, rather than one individual.

Donations from our adoptions go both directly to support gorillas, as well as to fund our wider work to protect nature and our planet.

Your gift recipient will receive an optional toy and welcome pack.

If the welcome pack won't arrive in time for a special event such as a birthday, you can print or email a personalised gift certificate online to give while you’re waiting for the pack to arrive.

Animal adoptions like yours give a huge boost to our work. They not only help fund projects to work with local governments to improve management of the forests in which gorillas live, but also fund our other vital work around the world.
