Will you help protect this majestic big cat?
The snow leopard’s survival hangs in the balance as climate change, poaching and human-wildlife conflict threaten its very existence. We need your help to safeguard this iconic species before it’s too late.
Together, we can secure a future in which communities and snow leopards coexist peacefully.

FADING FROM THE PEAKS
Elusive, solitary and stealthy - it is no surprise that snow leopards are often referred to as ‘the ghosts of the mountains.’ While the magnificent cats have always been a rare and wonderful sight to be behold, the threat of shrinking habitats, loss of prey and rising conflict with local communities could mean that snow leopard sightings soon become a thing of the past. As few as 400 now roam the mountains of Nepal. If we don’t act fast, the ghosts of the mountains could fade away forever.

DEADLY CONSEQUENCES
Climate change is having a catastrophic effect on the high-altitude habitats of snow leopards. Rising temperatures are causing tree lines to shift up the mountains, pushing snow leopards to the edge of their range. This is forcing them closer to the territories of farmers and their livestock. Due to a loss of natural prey, the hungry cats often turn to feeding on farmed livestock and can devastate whole herds – and the entire livelihoods of farmers – overnight. Too often, snow leopards quickly become the target of retaliation and revenge killings.

AN AI LIFELINE
But there is still hope for snow leopards. In the mountain regions of Pakistan, we’re trialling a new technology to track the species and reduce conflict with local communities. The AI-powered early warning system, compatible with camera traps, can identify the presence of snow leopards and warn farmers nearby. With your support, we will work to develop this pioneering technology even further and expand its reach for use in other countries. The development of technologies like this could provide us with crucial data on snow leopard behaviour and allow us to help protect both predator and people alike.
