Who are the WWF Guardians?

Guardians are dedicated individuals who want to go further for nature. By contributing £1,000 or more, you’ll directly support restricted projects, ensuring your generosity creates measurable impact where it’s needed most.

"We need urgent action to protect and restore nature around the world. WWF's Guardians provide vital funds to help safeguard the wildlife we all love so much and protect the places where it lives. We are enormously grateful for their support."

Why we need Guardians

Nature is disappearing at an alarming rate. Wildlife populations have declined by 73% in the past 50 years, and our world is approaching dangerous tipping points. These changes can be sudden, irreversible, and catastrophic for people and nature.

But it’s not too late. Together, we can restore balance. As a Guardian, you’ll play a pivotal role in tackling the root causes of nature loss and creating a sustainable future where both people and wildlife thrive.

"a chance to be involved in special projects"
“It is always good to donate to the Guardian appeal. It's a chance to be involved in special projects to help save our planet. Each year the project focus is on a different part of the world that needs our help. The Guardian appeals highlight the issues involved and make us more aware of what needs to be done to help save our planet. It is good to be part of a process that helps local people save their wild.”
Chris Lassam | WWF Guardian

2025 - Restoring the Roar to Achanakmar

Guardians are helping protect tigers across Central India. Through restoring ‘Achanakmar’, a vital tiger stronghold, protecting wildlife corridors between reserves, supporting sustainable livelihoods and reducing human-wildlife conflict. Excitingly, the latest survey results show there are now 10 mature tigers living in Achanakmar reserve – double what we previously estimated. And with three breeding females raising cubs in the reserve, our ongoing conservation efforts are critical to their future.

2024 – Amazon: Tipping Point or Turning Point?

Guardian support has helped halt deforestation, conserve 80% of the Amazon, curb gold mining, and protect Indigenous communities. Guardians enabled monitoring of 1,450 sq km of forest and the training of 250 ranchers in regenerative farming whilst also supporting research to reconnect jaguar habitat. During devastating fires, their funding equipped local brigades and provided emergency supplies, helping communities and wildlife recover. Together, we’re making a real difference.

2023 – Ruvuma: Helping People and Nature Flourish

Guardians have driven vital conservation progress across Tanzania and Mozambique. Their support has helped train 50 Village Game Scouts and increase species monitoring, contributing to a 72% reduction in poaching incidents since 2020. As well as enabling the plantation of 160,000 seedlings and securing 6,563 hectares of forest. Funds have also strengthened Rapid Response Teams and community initiatives that reduce human–wildlife conflict and help prevent retaliatory killings.
