How to Help WWF this November

Find out which big events are coming up this month where you can best support WWF.

November is the perfect month to take meaningful action for the planet, with plenty of global awareness days to watch out for, from World Vegan Day to World Jaguar Day. Whether you're becoming a WWF member to help marine conservation, adopting an endangered animal, or baking something vegan, there are lots of ways you can support WWF's work to bring our world back to life this month.

What is World Vegan Day, and when is it?

World Vegan Day 2024 is celebrated on November 1st. It is a global event that encourages people to adopt a more plant-based diet.

How would trying something vegan help the planet?

Livestock farming is a driver of deforestation and habitat loss, which threaten iconic species around the world. By reducing meat consumption, and trying some plant-based alternatives, people can help decrease the demand for resources that contribute to deforestation.

Food production has a large carbon footprint, and that's why WWF is working with the UK's leading food retailers to halve the environment impact of UK shopping baskets by 2030.

What are some vegan food ideas?

To kick off the month, you can try cooking a vegan recipe - you'll find plenty of inspiration in this BBC Good Food List

Here you'll find ideas for plant-based proteins that you can add into your meat-free day.

World Fisheries Day 2024

World Fisheries Day is on November 21st and aims to highlight how important it is to maintain sustainable fishing practices. Ocean provide livelihoods to millions of people and are home to countless marine species, many of which are threatened by overfishing. This day raises awareness of the need to preserve our marine environments by encouraging sustainable fishing practices, and only eating sustainably caught fish.

What is sustainable fishing?

Sustainable fishing means catching fish in a way that allows fish populations to remain healthy and grow over time - by avoiding taking too many fish or damaging ocean habitats. It also includes using safer fishing methods that reduce bycatch - the accidental catching - of species like turtles and dolphins. Sustainable fishing also means advocating for limits on how many fish can be caught, and using the right fishing gear to make sure the ocean stays healthy for the future.

By adopting marine species such as sea turtles, or becoming a WWF member, you can help fund WWF's work in protecting vital marine habitats.

International Jaguar Day 2024

Rounding off November is International Jaguar Day (November 29th) which promotes the conservation of jaguars, the largest wild cats in the Americas. This day highlights the importance of protecting both jaguars and their habitats, especially the Amazon, which are threatened by deforestation.

WWF support jaguar conservation through work to protect their natural habitat in the Amazon rainforest and reduce illegal wildlife trade. To help contribute to these efforts you can adopt a jaguar with WWF or donate to our Amazon appeal and help secure a future for this majestic big cat.
