How to Help WWF this September

Find out which big events are coming up this month where you can best support WWF.

Swing into action for International Primate Day

September is a busy month for awareness days, and to kick things off on the 1st September we have a day to support and celebrate primates - International Primate Day!

What is a primate?

Primates are a group of mammals that include humans, monkeys, and apes. Primates usually live in groups and are social animals.

What is the difference between primates and monkeys?

While all monkeys are primates, not all primates are monkeys. For example both monkeys and apes are primates, but monkeys usually have tails whereas apes and humans do not.

Why are primates endangered?

Many primates around the world are endangered for a variety of reasons. Some primates are vulnerable because their forest homes are being cut down, some are caught or trapped by hunters, and climate change is also affecting their food sources.

Save the Amazon with Amazon Rainforest Day

Did you know the Amazon Rainforest is also known as the "lungs of the planet" since it releases around 20% of the world's oxygen, and absorbs lots of carbon dioxide?

It's our job to protect the rainforest because it helps keep our climate stable. Every donation helps work toward reducing deforestation while supporting the local Indigenous groups that depend on the Amazon - so give something back to the Amazon on September 5th.

See below why the Amazon is so important for everyone:

Become an environmental hero for a day – join World Cleanup Day 2024

World Cleanup Day takes place on September 20th - so grab a pair of gloves and find the closest cleanup near you to help make our world a cleaner, better place this month. See how millions of individuals each taking a small action can add up to hundreds of tons of waste collection - a collective approach to bringing our world back to life!

Rhinos are tough, but they still need protecting for World Rhino Day!

Everyone knows rhinos have thick skin (up to 5 centimeters thick!) but they need protecting as much as any of the animals supported by WWF. Your generosity goes towards anti-poaching patrols - and help work toward a future where no rhino is killed for their horns. Make a stand to protect rhinos this World Rhino Day on September 22nd.

World Gorilla Day is right around the corner

Rounding off September we have World Gorilla Day on September 24th! This species shares 98% of our DNA, and needs our support now more than ever. WWF supports gorillas by conserving their habitat, safeguarding against poaching, and protecting them against human threats (including conflict and human illnesses).

How many gorillas are left in the world?

There are only around 1,000 mountain gorillas left – the time to take action is now. Every donation writes a line in the story for the future of gorillas, we can help boost gorilla numbers for years to come and protect their habitat but we can't do it without your help. Adopt a gorilla now and help us keep gorillas alive for generations to come.
