Asian elephants are at a crossroads. Your help as an Elly Ally can safeguard their future.

The last great wanderers

Asian elephants are the largest land mammals in Asia, yet their presence is fading fast. Once roaming across much of the continent, they now inhabit just 5% of their former range. If we don’t act now, we risk losing these extraordinary animals forever.

By donating today, you’ll join a growing movement of “Elly Allies” – people coming together to secure a future for Asian elephants.

Mounting threats

Human-elephant conflict

Struggling to follow their traditional movements, the elephants can get cut off from vast swathes of their natural habitat by plantations surrounded by miles of electric fencing. This results in them often passing through agricultural areas, settlements and fragmented forests instead. The animals may come into conflict with people when they damage their crops and property. This, unfortunately, can prove fatal on both sides.

From conflict to coexistence

We’re supporting communities to use early-warning systems such as low-cost siren fences, and boosting local incomes by developing livelihoods that reduce conflict with elephants, such as agroforestry and coffee growing.

Ecological corridors

Moreover, engaging plantation companies to create ecological corridors can allow elephants back into ranges they’ve been cut off from.

In some cases, plantations realign their electric fences. This allows elephants access to certain parts of their land and helps restore those ecosystems safely.

With your help, we can scale up this positive shift to create safe havens for Asian elephants, improve coexistence with people, and boost sustainable livelihoods.
